About me

What is going on #Avination?!

My name is Justin Siems and I am the creator of Pilot to Pilot. Well, co-creator a lot of credit should go to my wife. She was the one that helped encourage me to create Pilot to Pilot, thanks, babe!

I was born and raised in the greatest city ever Charlotte, NC. Believe it or not, Charlotte and North Carolina are an aviation gold mine. For starters, the Wright brothers took their first flight in Kitty Hawk, NC. Making North Carolina “First in Flight” (get over it Ohio), Charlotte is home to KCLT the 7th busiest airport in the world, and KCLT is also home to US Airways Flight 1549. Yep, that is the plane Captain Sully landed in the Hudson River. Do you want to see what it looks like after one of the most infamous landings of all time? Well, you will have to head to Charlotte, NC.

On top of growing up in a city and state with a rich aviation history, I also had a grandpa and dad who flew professionally. My Grandpa flew “The Hump” in WWII and later flew for United Airlines. My dad started flying for Piedmont Airlines and has been on a wild ride, leading him to American Airlines. I know what you are thinking, “man, Justin was surrounded by aviation. He must have always known he wanted to be a pilot.” Well, that couldn’t be any farther from the truth.

You see, from a young age, I had always wanted to be a professional athlete. Growing up I played every sport you could imagine, before focusing on football in high school. I  went on to play football at The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, I quickly realized that I was most likely not going to make it to the NFL and needed a new plan, ASAP. It wasn’t until I was 20 years old that I took my first flight and the rest is history.

My first aviation job was at a survey company where I was able to fly all over the country in a Cessna 310 and built my multi-engine time. I now fly a PC12 and Caravan for a cargo company based out of Ohio. In my downtime, I run the Pilot to Pilot podcast where my goal is to encourage and inspire aviators of all types to pursue their flying dreams.

Behind every man, there is an even greater woman!
